The Teeth Fairy

Nope, not a typo.

All year, Charlie has been trying to wiggle teeth that aren't loose.  All of his classmates were coming to school and showing off brand new gap-tooth smiles and talking about money.

Money from the Fairy was very interesting to Charlie.

When none of his teeth would fall out, he started to invent other fairies.

"Mom, I think the Sock Fairy is going to come visit me tonight!"
"The Sock Fairy?"
"Yeah.  Can I put my socks under my pillow?"
"Why?"
"They have a hole in them so the Sock Fairy needs to come and get them."

Yeah, he actually did sit and rip a hole in his sock for that one.
About two weeks later he came home from school with a hole in his shirt.
Sadly, there was no Shirt Fairy either.
Charlie is a very determined boy.

I kept telling him that his teeth would eventually get loose and then they would fall out.
Eventually is a long time when you are 5 and 6.

And then, right after Christmas, Charlie wiggled a tooth and it actually moved.  He messed around with his two front bottom teeth for several days.  Upon further investigation we found that Charlie was going to have a different experience.

His two bottom front teeth were loose.
Right behind them were two adult teeth growing nicely.
And the baby teeth weren't falling out.

We tried to convince him to actually pull the teeth.
(They were quite loose, but he was too scared to do that.)
I gave him lots of apples and corn to eat, but that didn't work either.
The dentist said that they would eventually come out.
(And the adult teeth would move forward.)

It took about 4 months, but that dentist was right.
In the middle of May, Charlie lost his first tooth.
He was so very excited, he talked about it all day and up until bedtime.
He put the tooth under his pillow.
And woke up to a $2 prize.

$2 was all the motivation he needed.
The second tooth was pulled out in a couple of days' time.
And then one of his top front teeth "fell" out two days later.
And Charlie had two teeth to put under his pillow one night.
And woke up to find 5 whole dollars!

So now, she's the "Teeth Fairy" forevermore.
