Kindergarten Projects

Charlie did a couple of fun projects for his class this December.

Charlie's class has a mascot.  The mascot is a little stuffed dog named Sparky.  Every student gets to bring Sparky home for a day and have fun with him.  They then document what they did in the class journal.  Charlie was so proud when it was his turn to bring Sparky home.  Honestly, I think Ephram had just as much fun.  One of Charlie's classmates gave Sparky a little friend a few turns before his, so each of the boys had a dog to play with.

Charlie's class also had an assignment during the month to make their own musical instruments.  They could make whatever they wanted to.  I thought that there would be a lot of shoebox guitars, but these were pretty creative kids.  There was a full drumset, a saxophone, and a piccolo to name a few.  Charlie decided that he wanted to make a didjeridoo.  We had just finished a couple of tubes of wrapping paper and he wanted to make an instrument that he could "blow" that was really big "like a wrapping paper tube".  When I told him about the didjeridoo he was sold.  He proudly went to school and announced that he was making one the next day.  He had a lot of fun making it.  We researched didjeridoos online, and he chose all of the colors because he liked the aboriginal look of the ones we found online.  He got pretty good at playing it too... (although at first we had to dodge away from the end of the tube.)

The day that all of the instruments were due, the students made a little band in class.  I think it was Charlie's favorite project/activity so far.

Ha! One of my fiancé's friends made a didjeridoo recently, too. Maybe he and Charlie should be friends and start a didjeridoo band.
