Charlie's Sixth Birthday

Charlie turned 6 on December 9th.  Because he is in half day Kindergarten this year, he only goes to school on 1-2 Fridays each month.  He lucked out with his birthday, it landed on the only Friday that he was in school for the month.

He was super, super excited to have his birthday at school.  For the week before, he kept telling me everything that the class and the teacher would do for his birthday.  Routine is really important to Charlie, so I was grateful that everything went according to his plans.  He wanted to bring donuts to his class for a treat.  I brought them in at the end of school.  It was fun to see Charlie with his crown, basking in the attention.

He came home to find his birthday balloon - everyone in our house gets a balloon on their birthday.  This was probably the biggest ever.  Again, super excited boy.

We had a fun afternoon hanging out, watching Charlie's favorite TV shows and coloring.  Then it was time to go out to dinner.  Charlie chose Red Robin for his birthday dinner.  We told him that, if he wanted, we could have them bring out a treat and clap and sing for him.  He was all for it - but when they came to the table he was a little confused, then embarrassed, and very shy.  Everything was good once he realized the chocolate sundae was all for him.  Both of the boys scored free Red Robin balloons and we headed back home to do what Charlie had been waiting to do all day.... open presents.

I love that my boys' birthdays are around Christmas and that we get to have Christmas decorations in their pictures.  It makes everything seem that much more festive to me.

Charlie got a lot of Legos.  And not just any Legos - but Star Wars Legos... two of his current favorites!

He was also really excited to get this Toy Story Memory game from his Grandma and Grandpa Boyce.

Then there was the cool Lego container and play mat from Grandpa Kovar.

We had also bought a Lego play mat for him... It was quite the Lego birthday.

His Grandma and Grandpa Boyce sent this Merry-Okee as well.  It plays Christmas carols and includes a voice changer to make the singer sound like an elf.  This ended up being the most popular toy of the month for both of the boys... and, to be truthful, the parents too.  (In all honesty we are still playing with it halfway through January.)

But the biggest surprise of all was his first RC Truck.  Charlie has envied his dad's RC cars, trucks and helicopters for years.  He was beside himself with excitement when he opened this.  It was the first toy he played with.

After some time had passed, it was time for cake.  I bought a cake this year.

Charlie went to bed a very happy kid, proud to be 6.  The next day he started telling us all that he was almost 6 and a half!
