A Little Chase

One day during our visit,
My littles were acting a little antsy,
So I took them for a walk around my parent's neighborhood.
The neighborhood I grew up in.
As we walked from street to street, I thought about all of the kids I once knew.
And all of the things we once did.
And I shared my happy memories with Ephram,
As Macie fell to sleep.
His favorite was the house on the hill,
The one that was built before our houses were,
That used to hand out little tinfoil rolls of 5 pennies on Halloween.
At the time Ephram really loved Halloween.
And he always loves his money!

Eventually we were on Bigelow nearing the last turn.
As we passed my old friend Megan's house,
I shared with him the story of how we used to sit on the brick retaining wall in her front yard
And sing songs, my favorite of which was "Red, Red Robin".
He laughed as he told me, "Silly Mommy!  Food, no song!"
Yes, I suppose Red Robin is a tasty restaurant and he'd never heard the song.
And then I laughed too and started singing it for him.
"When the red, red robin comes bob, bob, bobbin' along..."

And then he saw my parents' house,
And off he went.
He ran so fast that he left Macie and I in his dust.

It wasn't so much that he'd seen their house,
But the fact that his Grandpa Boyce was standing on that sidewalk.
And he just had to get his Grandpa.

By the time I got there, they were chasing each other around the front yard.

They both looked so happy.
As did a certain little girl, who woke up partway through the chase.

And then the game was finally over,
My dad had caught Ephram,
Or he'd caught my dad,
Or maybe they caught each other.
It doesn't really matter.

Suddenly, my dad was asking Ephram how strong he was,
And then giving him a first tree climbing experience.

My kids are so lucky to have an active Grandpa that plays with them so well.
