Father's Day 2013

This year Father's Day
Started out sunny,
With lots of play.
Including an intense afternoon thunderstorm,
Yummy food for the best Daddy,
And presents -
Including a special Father's Day Message of the Force.
It ended in hugs all around,
Happy children,
And a Daddy that hopefully knows how much he is cherished.

Mothers Day 2013

My Mothers Day was lovely this year, truly.
How could it not be with my three charming children?

Andy surprised me with a new lens in the morning.
Here, I had been trying to tone back on the number of pictures I was taking,
And then he went and gave me a portrait lens.
Which I love.
So I took a lot of pictures.

My husband gave me some pretty flowers.
We enjoyed a yummy late lunch at The Spaghetti Factory.
We played a bunch.
And then we played some more.
We had dessert,
I opened up Charlie's school-made gifts.
Andy did a great job of doing most of the work for me.
He even took some pictures of me with the kids.
(Using my new lens.)

It was a nice, relaxing day.

Quatro de Mayo

We had a fun Cinco de Mayo party this year.  We just did it on the fourth instead.  You may or may not know that May the 4th is also Star Wars day, so after the party we had a Star Wars marathon with the kids.  It was a really fun day!

At the party we made maracas out of our old Easter eggs, plastic spoons and duct tape.  We filled the eggs with rice, beans, macaroni and popcorn.  It was a lot of fun and I still have about 10 maracas left in my house four months later.

We also had a marvelous time smashing a pinata.  It was so much fun watching all of the kids - the little ones who were hitting a pinata for the first time, up to the big ones who swung the stick with purpose.  In the end it was a girl that broke the pinata open.

After everyone was inside, I looked out and saw Charlie smashing the remains of the pinata to bits.  He was so happy out there, destroying something that was perfectly allowable.  It was one of those moments that you wish you could have frozen in time.

Our kids really enjoyed their Cinco de Mayo party and I enjoyed doing something to celebrate the day. We may just have to make this an annual tradition!

After-Easter Eggs

Yes, After-Easter Eggs.
That's what you call it when you dye your eggs two days after Easter.

See, what had happened was
I bought dye for the Eggs way back in the end of February.
And then March got so busy for the two weeks before Easter.
My parents came.
People got sick.
Macie went and turned one.
And then all of a sudden Easter was over.
And I had two dozen eggs in my fridge.
And dye that lay untouched.

So the day after Easter,
I boiled my eggs.
And the day after the day after Easter,
We made them pretty.

At least we did it, right?
