My hometown is known for a few things,
It's a pretty big city with a lot of history.
And one thing that anyone who has grown up in Riverside knows is,
It used to be a mass of orange groves.
We have some great oranges in Riverside.
My high school's colors were.... bet you didn't guess this.... green and orange.
For the orange groves, yes. It's true.
Most of the orange groves have been flattened.
In fact, most of our houses were built where an orange grove once stood.
But some of the groves remain.
And there are random groupings of orange bushes here and there.
Having access to fresh, juicy, sweet citrus is one of the things I most miss about Riverside.
So, I was pretty happy to see that my Dad had just bought a huge bag of oranges from the best grove:
Gless Ranch.
My boys were happy too.
Those are some tasty, perfect, lip-smacking oranges.
One day Ephram decided that he would make a delivery from the stash in the dining room to the kitchen table.
This kid was being as official, yet sly and silly, as he could be.
He makes me smile.
Every day.
